ABOUT US

Community Carers Connect is a small, not-for-profit project run by a local team of independent carers who believe everyone deserves to feel safe, informed, and confident when arranging care at home.

Our mission is to raise awareness about safe, trusted care, helping families understand their rights, responsibilities, and how to stay in control when choosing support. Through our community outreach, we share free resources, talks, and simple guidance that make care clearer and safer for everyone.

Alongside our awareness work, we also provide our own independent care services in Yeovil and the surrounding villages.

Each of us works self-employed, offering flexible, person-centred support with honesty, dignity,

and respect at the heart of what we do.

We do not advertise for or represent other carers, only our own small group. Everything we do is driven by care, not profit, and guided by our belief that knowledge builds safety and trust in the community.

WHAT IS A COMMUNITY CARER?

“Each Community Carer within our small team is self-employed and provides support directly in people’s homes.” Unlike large agencies, community carers work independently, offering a more bespoke, personal approach to care.

They are local people who are part of the community, often with years of experience in care. Families have the chance to build a direct relationship with their carer, creating trust and consistency in day-to-day support.

Community Carers can help with a wide range of needs from companionship and everyday tasks to more specialised support ,always with dignity, kindness, and professionalism at the heart of what they do.

CHECKED, TRUSTED AND INSURED

Every Community Carer is self-employed, but they are also fully professional. All carers within Community Carers Connect have the right checks and cover in place, including:

  • DBS checks for safety and reassurance

  • Insurance to protect both families and carers

  • Training and experience built from years of working in care

This gives families peace of mind that the carers they connect with are kind, responsible, and safe to welcome into their homes

PERSONALISED APPROACH

No two people are the same, and care should never be one-size-fits-all. With Community Carers, the person requesting care or their family always leads the way  "never the carer".

Support is arranged around what matters most to you: your routines, your choices, and your preferences.

This makes the care truly bespoke, whether it is companionship, everyday help, or more specialised support. The role of the Community Carer is to listen, adapt, and provide care that fits naturally into each person’s life.

Do Community Carers need to be regulated?

Big care companies must be registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) because they employ staff and take full responsibility for people’s care.

Our Community Carers work differently, each of us is independent  and works directly with you or your family.”

  • They are self-employed and work directly with you or your family.

  • As long as you (or your family) are managing the care, they do not need to be CQC registered.

  • If a carer is fully in charge of organising and providing personal care (like washing, dressing, toileting), they must register with the CQC.

 Simple rule:

  • You or family in charge = no CQC needed

  • Carer fully in charge of personal care = CQC needed
